Hi kitty cats, hope you all had a lovely weekend! So, as y’all know (I mean, I’ve not exactly been quiet about it), last weekened I attended Manchester Fashion Week 2014. Aside from the three days worth of fashion shows, exhibitions and smoozing with fashion-y types, there was one special perk I found in the goodie bags – a voucher for £50 to spend at Skin Health Spa. Yay! If you were also lucky enough to find one in your goodie bag, you might find this review pretty helpful…
The other week I was lucky enough to be invited down to Skin Health Spa, a skin and hair removal clinic specialist, in St James Square, Manchester to have a trial of one of their treatments. I was given a list of treatments to choose from, including various types of facials and laser hair removal. To be honest, I was kinda tempted by the laser hair removal having never tried it, but wussed out and went for The Ultimate Facial. Retailing at £245, I thought I better go big or go home. And, was it worth it? I guess you’ll have to keep reading to find out, especially as I wanted to wait a while after the treatment to do my write-up to test how long the effects would really last for…
My therapist herself was also extremely apologic when I was welcomed through, and also very friendly and knowledgable. Before the treatment, she talked me through what The Ultimate Facial – retailing at a staggering £245, eek! – actually meant. I truly appreciated this as so often you are told to jump on the massage table and your treatment is over before you know it. She told me that it is a three step treatment, including a microdermabrasion, a balancing enzyme facial and finally a Transderm® treatment. Having had a microdermabrasion before I was excited to see how different this treatment would be, especially compared to the hefty price tag.
To start, the therapist listened to my concerns, explored my skin after removing my makeup and cleansing my face, and got to work on the microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a deep exfoliation, using handheld mechnical wands to remove skin cells damaged by the environment and stimulate the natural cell regenerating process. My therapist took care to concentrate on my problem areas, even going back to my areas of concern to do a spot treatment after completing the overall face. After this, my face was cleaned and massaged with the rest of the product, before starting the Transderm. During this part, eletrical currents (yes, really!) were used to stimulate my skin. Not as scary as it sounds, but it did feel funny – I could kinda feel the currents through my brain, which really is as weird as it sounds. I’m glad I experienced it, but to be honest, would probably stick to the microdermabrasion in the future! Finally, an hydrating facial mask was put on my face and whilst this dried, my lovely therapist massaged my head and scalp, which was super relaxing and a lovely touch.
The look of the salon was also aesthetically pleasing – I would say half and half between relaxing (some candles and aromotherapy) and a clinical feel. It was all very clean, which is obviously a huge bonus for me! The staff were also all very polite and friendly, which is always nice when you’re trusting them seeing you makeup free – they’ve gotta be nice, haven’t they?! Over all, I’d love to go back and try some more treatments. If you’d like to try too, you can find a list of current offers here.
