Many home advice posts on beautiful blogs are interested in helping you keep your owned home tidy and clean, and provide excellent renovation advice. But, as I know first hand from my sister who has just moved into the most beautiful flat in Greenwich, London, there’s much less advice given to help those who might own an apartment in a building. For many inner-city or urban residents, this is usually the default living space they might encounter. And it’s not uncommon for the renovation or decorative needs to be slightly changed as a result of this.
Keeping your owned apartment tidy might seem easy on the surface, especially if you have a relatively small space, but it’s the efforts that matter, and little changes can often transform how this space feels. With the following advice, we hope to help you add a little more ‘you’ to your apartment space, no matter how humble the space is, or how long you might plan to live there. After all, everyone deserves to feel comforted in a place they can call their own. So let us begin:
It can be extremely easy for the balcony to accumulate moss or other dirt depending on the materials you use. It might be that sprucing up the place with a few hanging baskets (within your property, not hanging over the edge,) ensuring that the flooring is scrubbed down often, and that the wood is repeatedly varnished over the years will keep things looking fresh. You might also decide to implement aluminium windows if yours are somewhat old or you wish to keep a modern style in keeping with the theme of the building.
In apartments, particularly those in large cities such as New York, space is an essential thing to consider. Storage is something that matters then, as wasted space can often be assigned a dollar amount of realty you could now struggle to use. Hanging baskets can be a great means to use more vertical space, as well as under-bed drawers, or organizing your closet effectively. If you can do this, then the ability to use your space for better organization should help it feel much more open than it was before.
Storage is one thing, but the placement of your household objects is another. Of course, you shouldn’t only prize function over form, but if you have too many things hanging on the walls as decorative pieces, each surface in your home is filled with belongings, and you regularly trip over things, it can be important to remove some of those items. A good rule of thumb for apartment living is that if you don’t use an item in three months, you should sell it or get rid of it somehow. Not only can this help an apartment look beautiful, but it can also much reduce the potential of a fire hazard, which is always a good thing to be aimed for.
With these tips, we hope you’re much better able to keep your owned apartment tidy.
