They say that the home is where the heart is.
It’s the place where you can be yourself, enjoy life away from the outside world, and spend time relaxing.
Your home should be the love of your life; well, outside of your partner and family, of course.
But there might come a time when your home isn’t that precious sanctuary that it once was. Rather than lift your heart when you step through the front door, it might cause your heart to drop instead. You might
put some thought into moving because despite the stress and expense of a move, you might assume it’s the only way you are going to find happiness in a home again.
And sometimes, making a move might be the right answer. However, if there was a way to reclaim your love for your current home, you should at least try to give it a chance before you close the door on it forever.
Here are a couple of things you might do.
Okay, so ‘hate’ is probably too strong a word, but if there are any rooms in your home that cause you intense dislike, then you could do something with them.
On a grand scale, you could completely redesign a particular room.
Traditional bathrooms are back in fashion, for example, so if the decor and style of your bathroom no longer suits your taste, you might add a little luxury with a classic freestanding bath and some vintage bathroom accessories. Not only will your bathroom look gorgeous, but it might also invoke a homely feel of nostalgia; perfect for when you’re relaxing in your bubble bath after a stressful day at work.
And what about your living room? This is probably the room where most of your time is spent, so if you’re sick and tired of looking at the same four walls every day, why not do something with them? A fresh lick of paint might be in order, with trending colour schemes that will revitalise the look of your room. Hanging some art on the wall will give your room added character, whether it’s something you have created yourself or a piece bought from a local artist. You might want to purchase some new furniture too, especially if your tables and chairs are showing signs of wear.
Of course, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on your makeover. If you are living on a budget, you could bring extra style into your home by adding new cushions and throws to your sofas. A new rug would make an excellent focal point, and would instantly give your room the wow factor. You might also add some plants and flowers around your home to prettify dull areas. And you might repaint any fixture that is showing signs of age, such as giving your kitchen cabinets a bold new look to give your kitchen extra visual appeal.
There is much you could do, so if any of your rooms are looking dull and staid, bring them back to life with a makeover.
If you don’t like your home because it has little of interest to capture your personality and tastes, then give it the functionality that it needs.
As we have discussed before, you might create chill-out spaces in your home. These will be your go-to places when you want to relax, be that to do nothing but rest your weary soul, or when you want to engage with an activity that will elevate your downtime. As discussed in our article, you might create a home cinema room, as this will give you the opportunity to relax with your favourite movies (don’t forget the popcorn). Or you might create a reading corner, giving you the opportunity to catch up with this year’s bestselling books.
You might also create areas of your home fit for socialising. You might want to install decking outside so you can enjoy your garden with your friends. Or you might want to create an entertainment room, perhaps with a home bar, some games, and a sound system that will give you, your family, and your besties the opportunity to boogie the night away.
And what about a home gym? Perfect, especially if you are trying to meet certain fitness goals. Or what about a home office? It doesn’t have to be for work, as you can use the area to spend time with some of your creative passions.
When your home has added functionality, you should have more to do with your living space. Consequently, you might never get tired or bored with your home again.
Home should be where your heart is, but if your heart is already in the process of packing its bags, you might want to follow our suggestions to return it to its rightful place!
