The big day of lurrrve is almost here – Valentine’s Day 2024 is right around the corner! No matter what’s going on in my own love life, I always use Valentine’s season as an excuse to exercise self-love and indulge in my own lingerie wardrobe. After all, if there’s the perfect time to make sure your bras are fitting correctly, it’s when all the fanciest knickers and padded bras are out, and Belle Lingerie has got me feeling particularly inspired!
So, whether you’re donning your padded bra for date night, a romantic night in or you simply want to look – and feel – your best under your clothes, here are my top tips for better fitting padded bras. After all, the only thing better than Valentine’s Flowers to treat yourself with this year, is lingerie.
An almost impossible task – ensuring your bras are the right size for you! Try as I might over the last 15 + years, it seems a nigh on impossible task to make my own bras fit just right on my own. My best tip is to visit a lingerie fitting specialist to get a fitting done.
Although it might seem daunting at first, fitting bras is something these professionals do day-in-day-out so there’s really nothing to feel embaressed about. Shops like Marks and Spencer offer the service for free, and there’s no obligation to buy. I’d recommending getting a professional size fitting done, and then taking the bra size away to purchase from whatever store you like, if you so desire.
Okay, so you’ve had a bra fitting done (once, in the past, years ago). Is that size still right? Professionals recommend getting fittings done every 6 months to ensure your padded bras remain fitting correctly. After all, our bodies really do go through almost daily fluctuations that might set off your previously perfect fitting padded bra.
As well as the measurements around your chest, finding the right cup size for your bra is important. In fact, when choosing to wear a padded bra, it’s even more important!
The right fitting cup size should fit around your breasts seamlessly. We don’t want any flesh spilling out (even though it might be tempting to want to do this in a padded bra). Similarly, we don’t want any gaps between the cup and your skin. We want it to fit just right!
And finally, don’t underestimate the power of the under-wired padded bra! Like the cups, an underwire should fit seamlessly against your skin – it should lay flat (no bending, or digging in), without any gaps against your chest.
One thing to pay attention to here is the centre core of the bra. This is right at the front of the bra, where the two cups meet, and it should lay smoothly against your skin. Again – no gaps or digging in!
If you need a little help here, consider choosing a padded bra with adjustable straps. Being able to adjust the straps even slightly can be a huge advantage and give you sme leverage over the mini adjustments of the bra. This means you have a little more power to lengthend the straps (for more flexibility) or tighten them (for a more secure fit).
So, whether you’re treating yourself, or simply looking for the perfect Valentine’s gift for a loved one, hopefully this blog post gives you some top tips on how to look and feel your best under your clothes (or rather, not!) this Valentine’s Day 2024.
