If there’s one thing I’ll never be a pro at, it’s golf. The long rolling greens, heavy sticks and quiet pace is just not for me… Crazy golf, however, well – that’s a different story! Crazy or adventure mini golf seems to be the perfect past time when you’re looking for a different type of night out, and having tried a couple of different crazy golf courses in Manchester already, I was keen to visit the new kid on the block – Treetop Adventure Golf at The Printworks, Manchester.
Treetop Adventure Golf Manchester is located on an upper level of The Prints, accessible via a door just round the side of Manchester Arndale – a super handy city centre location. As soon as you enter, you are directed into a lift and once arrived, you step out of the lift into a magical, tropical, tree top land! With an exotic soundtrack, the sound of parrots squawking the background, a plethora of bright colours and faux foliage, it’s like stepping into a magical, tropical rain-forest. The name ‘treetop golf’ suddenly makes sense!
We were welcomed to Treetop Adventure Golf by a handful of super smiley and friendly staff on the main counter, and once we received our clubs and colourful golf balls, were invited to have a drink at The Market bar, right next to the check in desk and before the golf courses. This is a bar-come-cafe modelled on an Amazonian village, serving handmade pizzas, coffees and alcoholic drinks. Of course, our heads were turned by the promise of exotic cocktails and so myself, Michele and Russ chose a different tropical tipple each from their custom cocktail menu. We went for the Monkey Mojito, Mai Tai and Goji Cosmo (all £7.95) and each were strong and delicious in equal measures!
After our drinks, it was time for some golf! Treetop Adventure Golf Manchester is home to two different indoor, 18 – hole mini-golf courses. Guests can choose between Tackle the Tropical Trail or Ancient Explorer, which both end at the same bonus 19th hole which you are invited to put into for the chance to win a free round (spoiler alert: it’s hard!). We decided to try the Ancient Explorer, which is based on the idea of an ancient mountain village, complete with crumbling temples, tropical rain forest and even a sacred monkey statue. All very fun!
The course itself is really fun. It’s full of fun holes (a weird phrase for me to write!), interactive putting greens, exciting sounds and bright colours. Whoever created the course definitely had an interesting sense of humour and an eye for detail, as the whole 18 hole course is full of quirky tropical references. Difficulty wise, it’s actually pretty hard – but manageable – and we only managed to get two hole-in-ones between the three of us for the whole game! It took us a little over an hour to complete, which was decent entertainment, before stopping off for another drink at the end.
Over all, we had a great time and it was definitely a fun and unusual way to kick off a Saturday night! If you’re looking for something different to do in Manchester (day or night) then Treetop Adventure Golf at The Printworks might just be for you.
