Urban Decay is one of my favourite make-up brands ever (cruelty free, excellent quality and always effortless cool). Gwen Stefani is also one of my favourite style icons ever, since the 90’s when she inspired me during her time in No Doubt and she seems to keep getting hotter with age. So, when the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani collaboration came out in late in 2015, it seemed almost inevitable I would love the collection. Today, I’m going to be talking you through my most used palette at the moment – the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette; spoiler alert, I do love it!
Urban Decay packaging is always lovely; their palettes always stand out against my other collections in my make-up draw and I love how they really pay attention to making their cases nice and sturdy. A boring thing to comment on maybe, but the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette case snaps tightly shut and feels like it wouldn’t be a problem for you to chuck this in your travel bag for a bit of glam on holiday.
The colours themselves were picked by Gwen and are exactly what I would have expected from her. The first two rows of five colours are all very neutral and as a huge fan of the Urban Decay Naked series, I am not disappointed with the excellent quality of these brown and nude shades either. The third and bottom row is a little more ‘out there’, with a bright pink, blue and yellow. I can certainly imagine Gwen blending the first ten colours on an every day basis, then adding a pop of bright colour to make a statement for a performance or night on the red carpet.
When swatching and using these colours, the pigmentation is brilliant and the colour pay off lasts for a long time. I swatched a selection of different shades above, but perhaps it doesn’t do them justice on paper; on the eye, I always pair them with my trusty Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base and they blend incredibly well. The formula is buttery and there is little fall out. At £40 this is not a cheap palette, but I do think this palette is one of the best I have ever had. I will forever love my Urban Decay Naked Palettes for their wearability, but I love the simple pop of colours within this palette. Combined with very wearable neutrals, it makes working colour into your make-up very easy and for the quality, I think it’s totally worth it.
