Urban Massage Manchester, Mobile Masseuse

2015 has been the year of the Uber-style service – downloading an app on your mobile phone, finding what you want and when, and ordering it. Simple and easy, and straight to your door. However, this week there’s been a new addition to my app favs – move over Uber, Taxi’s – Urban Massage Manchester has launched.

Much like mobile hair dressers and make-up artists, Urban Massage offers a mobile massueuse service. You simply download their app from the app store, create an account, and then can book in a massage from a choice of different therapists at a day and time that suits you – the best thing is that they come right to your doorstep!

You may notice that I’m not actually in any of these pictures – sorry guys, but I gotta have a bit of privacy and I’d rather keep my lovely relaxing experience as a little secret safe haven just for myself. I’m sure you won’t mind too much!

When I first heard about this, I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I mean, it’s no different to any other home service, right? However when I broached it with some of my friends they seemed iffy – that it was a bit weird to have someone come to your home to massage you. However, I really think we just need to consider it in terms of any other beauty service. I honestly believe that ordering services (like a massage!) through an app are the way forward and soon most of our transactions will be done that way.

My own experience of booking through the Urban Massage app was seamless. I simply downloaded the app, entered my details to create an account and then was presented with a choice of different massags – deep tissue, swedish massage, etc – and a calendar to book with a therapist of my choice at a date and time that suited me. It was so easy to use, and as it happens, I booked in for the next evening; very quick, effortless and my therapist Megan showed up right on time. Well, early, in fact!

Megan arrived 10 minutes early to the alotted time, and it gave me just enough time to get home from work, have a quick shower, and set up a little home beauty spa in my lounge. I closed the curtains, lit some candles and popped on a ‘deep relax’ playlist from spotify (you know the type of music – pan pipes, water, the lot). Megan arrived with all the equipment she would need, including a portable massage table, oils, antibacterial wipes and a folder of information. In fact, she was so prepared she even bought spare towels and music, which the app advises the customer provide themselves. Over a cup of tea, we had a quick chatty consultation before she got started.

I booked a 60 minute full body Calming Massage* (much needed after a busy few weeks at work) which used lavender oils and concentrated on relaxation points on the back and legs. Megan was polite and put me at easy, letting me know each time she was going to work on another body part and checking the level of pressure she was applying was to my liking. A 60 minute massage costs £45 paid through the Urban Massage app, which I feel is a fair price as to me it seems pretty much the standard price for a massage.

Over all, I had a really lovely experience. Booking through the app was so painless – it was quick and I got an appointment exactly when I wanted it. Although I do think there is still a place for spas at salons and spas (there’s something about going in to an environment that is already relaxing), I could definitely see myself using Urban Massage moving forwards and I would recommend you to try this if, like me, you find it hard to dedicate time to pampering yourself.
