A couple of weeks ago I attended the evening preview of Vivienne Westwood’s collection at the King Street store in Manchester. I was over the moon to be invited as Viv is my favourite designer ever – I am lucky enough to own a couple of her pieces (one handbag, three pairs of shoes and counting) and couldn’t wait to get my paws on the new collection… I was not disappointed!
I adore Vivienne Westwood for her absolutely inherent British designs, punk rock inspiration and quirky prints – she is everything I look for in a designer. This collection focused heavily on the Anglomania set of designs she has been keen on recently, where Vivienne believes that fashion is a combination and exchange of ideas between France and England; “On the English side we have tailoring and an easy charm, on the French side that solidity of design and proportion that comes from never being satisfied because something can always be done to make it better, more refined.”
The above leopard print prints were my favourite of the collection – y’all kittens know I love a good animal print and these clean yet quirky items just jumped out at me. I also absolutely adored the continuing collaboration between Vivienne Westwood and green shoes firm Melissa, of which I am lucky enough to own a couple of pairs! I loved the cute bow detail on the new designs and really have my eyes on the baby pink/blue bow combination – I must control myself!
As well as Anglomania, the collection featured hints of Vivienne’s newest inspirational story “Exploration”. In this Exploration stage, Vivienne returns more to the moden day. Beginning to put historicism to one side, Westwood returned to a more asexual cut, exploring the natural dynamic of the fabric by treating it like a living mass. I adore this gold skeletone necklace, which is so androgynous and could be worn by a male or female.
Over all, it was a fab night and great to view the new collection in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Although they were offering 20% off for one night only, there was no pressure to buy anything and I managed to control myself(!) which took so much will power when surrounded by all the beautiful items. The event solidified my love for Vivienne Westwood and it was so good to be able to take the time to appreciate all her new items.
So kittens, are you a fan of Vivienne Westwood? Or are her prints not for you? Leave me a comment below and let me know! And don’t forget to follow me on Twitter, like my Facebook page and subscribe to my Youtube channel to keep up to date with all things fashion!
