Most people love to travel, however, at times it can be stressful, especially when it comes down to planning. When you look closer at the planning you quickly realise there are a fair few things you should be considering when you travel. You need to look at areas like the climate, your budget, how sustainable it is, your flights, accommodation and many others.
If you’re someone who loves to travel have a look below at some of the things you should be considering when travelling:
When travelling you need to keep a close eye on the current currency rates. You should also make an effort to familiarise yourself with the rates of conversion before you travel. One of the most common mistakes travellers make is exchanging their money for foreign currency before they reach their intended destination. It’s often the case that you get a better rate of exchange in your destination rather than before. You risk losing money if you exchange at your bank and even more if you do it at the airport. Consider using a travel card and make use of the ATMs. Make sure you inform your bank that you’re travelling, otherwise they may hold your account and this is problematic when abroad.
For some travellers, it’s become a priority to make sure they’re economically friendly when travelling. This means that more people are now on the lookout for top tips to travelling more sustainably. Although you might not be able to avoid a plane journey you can consider using different modes of transport. Think about using a ferry or maybe a train to travel to your destination. You should also make considerations about the mode of transport you may use when you’re in your destination, are you going to hire a car or make the switch to using local transport or shared transfers?
When it comes to finding a place to stay, there are certainly a lot of options. Depending on the type of travelling you want to do, your needs and your style, there are plenty of hostels, campsites and hotels across the globe for everyone. Some people are now opting to use sources such as Airbnb or Couchsurfing as an accommodation option, you can often find more remote and unique properties to hire.
Unless you’re going completely off the grid you’ll most likely need an adapter to ensure you can charge your electronics. Make sure you do some research before travelling to enable yourself to purchase the right adapter before you travel. This kind of item can be expensive, especially if you plan to buy at the airport. It’s also a good idea to make sure that any data plan you have will cover you for travel to your destination otherwise you could end up with a rather large bill.
Before you travel it’s a good idea to do your research on the different customs of the country you’re visiting. Have a look at the do’s and don’ts, the etiquette behind tipping, certain gestures, certain words and actions that may be offensive. You don’t want to run the risk of getting into trouble by not completing the relevant research.
Travel insurance is one of the things that goes forgotten but is highly important when travelling. It covers you for things like illness, injury, cancelling travel plans, baggage loss or theft and other things. Although it’s not a legal requirement it’s something that you shouldn’t really be travelling without.
These are just a few of the things you should be considering when travelling, do you have any others that you can share in the comments below?
