Winter is well and truly here, and with a change of season, I always find myself wanting to redecorate where possible to accommodate the new season themes – much in the same way I like to switch up my wardrobe! However, we all know that changing up the whole of our interior décor just isn’t possible, and so when making over my bedroom, I often look to change smaller elements that are quicker and cheaper, such as my duvet cover.
Duvet covers are a true essential for a nice budget friendly bedroom. Not only can they be switched out in just a few minutes (although I have to admit I always struggle with getting the duvet aligned just right along the cover!) but there are so many different duvets to choose from that you don’t just have to wait for main season changes, like Winter, but can also have several during the season to reflect key holidays – such as Christmas and New Year!
Of course there are so many different duvet covers to choose from and at such a wide range of prices. Sure, you can go full luxury with a silk bedding set, but I personally like to pinch the pennies for seasonal items that I don’t expect to last for years and years, and so would rather go with something more affordable and trend based. Right now, there is a huge duvet cover sale going on at Yorkshire Linen’s website which makes for the perfect budget friendly bedroom update.
When looking for an on-trend winter bedroom update, I would suggest you looking for duvets that including trendy colours – such as teal or millennial pink – and mix them with festive textures such as faux fur and velvet, which instantly remind me of Winter. Key patterns to look out for also include tartan (super festive), polkadots (big throughout 2018 and set to be big in 2019) and animal print (undoubtedly this year’s biggest trend).
For winter duvet updates that feel a little less seasonal, I go for fairly neutral colours that coincide with the over all theme of the room décor and aren’t just based on a holiday. For instance, this beautiful satin duvet cover is By Caprice and has just a tiny hint of animal print. Of course, leopard print is really in this season but the area of it is minimal and so can be used for many seasons to come, not just this winter.
If you’re looking for something super cheap, I actually like to pick up budget bedroom duvet covers from Groupon and ASDA. I have a really cringe-worthy pug themed Christmas one which was only around a tenner and isn’t good quality at all, but as it is so specifically themed to Christmas I only up using it for around a week a year and therefore I am okay with that!
Over all, if you are looking to update your winter bedroom on a budget, changing the duvet cover is the way to go for me – but if you have any ideas of your own, please do let me know in the comments down below!
